I am back on trail! I did only 5km just to see how my foot would hang on. And I can tell you, even a day later it is still hanging on as it should. I was so happy just to get out there again, just in anticipation of the hike my mood was almost going better in the week prior to the big day.
Last weeks have not been fun without hiking, surprisingly I recognized my mood as like before I started this hiking challenge. The bad old times, when I was not really down but had no fun nor pleasure in anything I did. I described this period in a previous blog*. I believe it has been the hiking, or being outdoors a lot, that changed me. Since last year I changed my perspective at work, now I take the chances to learn as much as possible and I don’t have my boyfriend anymore and I see my friends and family more regular. Despite all those changed circumstances I still manage to feel equal as before this all changed. This makes me believe that those hiking sessions did good to me, but that the effects do not last so long.
Though, in the last year not just my mood changed. It feels like I am more involved with the world, I try to understand the impact that we as humans have. I buy less stuff, I eat less meat, I finally separate my trash and I want to buy only clothing free of slavery. Spending so much time in nature by myself made me more humble, there is so much more than just my life and every decision I make has an effect on others or on the world. I am trying to focus more on the consequences of my actions than just on me, this will be a process and I will be learning about more things I can improve. I am sure I am not changing the world, but being fair and honest to nature makes me enjoy being outdoors even more.
Those last weeks has not been fun, mostly because I could not get out there. But I thought during my small walk yesterday that I do have more insight on what hiking means to me and how it may have changed me. I hope for the future that I can keep on hiking without more injuries for it to change me for good.
Hike on!
